Kremayr House
The Museum
The town museum shows in its permanent exhibition the art collection of Rudolf Kemayr, the former owner of the house. He donated his house to the town of Rust in 1986. He was one of the co-founders of DONAULAND (an Austrian publishing house and book club).
Our visitors can see lovingly designed rustic furniture from Western Austria on two floors. An outstanding object is a tiled stove built in 1895 by the artist Koschka. It made a journey around the globe until it finally reached Rust as its destination. The stove illustrates a so-called poor man’s bible. There are also various paintings, tapestries and pieces of furniture that put the house in the perspective of the 17th century. In addition, the most important document of the town is exhibited – the Declaration of the Free City.
Throughout the year we change our exhibition according to the current season (Easter market, Christmas market), but also exhibitions of various artists contribute to our collection.
Visit our museum, you will certainly discover something.
Architecture
Not only from the outside does the lavishly and lovingly restored townhouse show itself to be a jewel that unites history and art in a unique way.
Architectural elements such as the portal, wooden ceilings and the vaulted cellar are worth seeing in themselves.
The idyllic inner yard is gladly used for concerts and vernissages and provides space for about 80 people.
Rental charge upon request. The rooms will be decorated by our staff. (Price upon agreement)
Ruster Schatzkammer
The “Ruster Schatzkammer” (treasure chamber of Rust) takes up there quarters in the newly designed cellar rooms – the best wines and vinters of the free city of Rust are represented here.
The basement rooms offer your company party or private celebration an exclusive setting for an unforgettable time. The venue offers space for a maximum of 30 people. If desired, catering can be provided by a catering company, which we will gladly arrange.
